These are Bangalore’s main animal shelters, rescues and NGOs. Most take in and rehome dogs and cats, and several also run rescue, treatment and 24×7 emergency pickup. One thing before you call: if the injury looks serious, do not wait for a callback. If you can safely do so, take the animal straight to the nearest vet yourself. It may cost a little, but it can be the difference between life and death.

1. CUPA Bangalore

has six centers in Bangalore where they care for injured animals. Some of the services provided are animal birth control, trauma and rescue, geriatric care, and adoption facilities.

2. Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre – CARE

helps with Rescue, adoption, and medical care of cats and dogs in need. They have been helping stray dogs of Bengaluru for a while now. Ace illustrator Alicia Souza also adopted her furry best friend from them.

Stray dog population is controlled by BBMP with the sterilization of stray dogs by implementing ABC-ARV Programme as per the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023.

2. Meet the dogs in person. Visit the shelter or a foster home. A few minutes with a dog tells you far more than any photo can.

How to report an injured or stray dog in Bangalore

If you spot an injured, sick or distressed animal on the streets of Bangalore, acting quickly and calmly gives it the best chance.

1. Call a helpline from the list above (confirm it answers first), choosing the one nearest to where the animal is.
2. Describe the situation clearly: the animal’s condition, whether it can stand or walk, and any visible injuries.
3. Share the exact location with a landmark, shop name or map pin so rescuers do not lose time finding it.
4. Stay nearby if it is safe. A frightened animal often hides, and your presence helps the team locate it.
5. Do not move a badly injured animal unless it is in immediate danger, such as lying in traffic. Handling a fracture or spinal injury wrongly can do more harm than the accident did.

While you wait, you can offer a little water, but hold off on food in case the animal needs surgery.
