Dog with Blog Privacy Policy

Dog with Blog (dogwithblog.in) is a pet advocacy site run from India. We publish adoption listings, lost and found pet reports, and writing about living with animals. This page explains what data we hold, why we hold it, who else sees it, and how you get it removed.

We wrote this to be read, not to be survived. If any part of it is unclear, write to us at cat@dogwithblog.in and we will explain it in plain terms.

This policy is written against India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025 notified on 14 November 2025. The Rules phase in over time, with the main obligations for sites like ours applying from 13 May 2027. We are not waiting for that date. Until the older framework is repealed on the same date, the IT Act Section 43A and the SPI Rules, 2011 also continue to apply, and we follow both.

Who we are

Dog with Blog is an independent publication, not a company with a compliance department. One person answers the email. That person is the data fiduciary for everything described here and can be reached at cat@dogwithblog.in.

What we collect, and when

We collect different things depending on what you do on the site. Nothing here is collected in the background beyond what is listed.

When you just read the site

Your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you open, and how you arrived. Under the DPDP Act an IP address counts as personal data, so we are naming it rather than calling this anonymous. It is used to understand which pages help people and to keep the site up.

When you subscribe to Woofs & Words

Your email address, and the date you subscribed. Used only to send the newsletter. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately.

When you report a lost or found pet

The lost and found form asks for the pet’s name, your city and area, the date, a photo, a description, and a contact name and phone number. You tick a consent box before it submits. The point of this form is publication — the details you enter, including your phone number, are shown publicly on the site so that whoever finds your dog can call you. Do not enter anything you would not want a stranger to read.

When you comment

Your name, email address, any website you give, your IP address, and the comment itself. Your name and comment are public; your email is not. Comments pass through an automated spam filter, which receives the comment and the IP address to score it.

When you write to us

Whatever you put in the contact form or the email, kept for as long as the conversation is useful.

Adoption listings and rescuers’ contact details

This is the part most privacy policies on pet sites leave out, so we are stating it plainly.

Our adoption directory republishes posts from r/AdoptDontShopIndia, the subreddit we run ourselves. When a rescuer posts an animal there, they are posting publicly, on our own community, for the express purpose of finding that animal a home. We mirror those posts onto the site so the animals reach people who are searching Google rather than browsing Reddit.

That mirror includes the contact details the rescuer chose to publish — usually a phone number or an email address — because a listing nobody can respond to helps no animal. We do not add contact details a rescuer did not post, we do not link out to anyone’s personal social media profiles, and we do not sell or pass these details to anyone.

If you posted an animal and want your listing or your number taken down, email cat@dogwithblog.in and we will remove it. You do not need to explain why. We also remove listings once an animal is homed, when we are told.

Advertising

Dog with Blog does not show adverts. No advert has ever been served on this site.

There is no Google advertising script on this site. A Google AdSense tag used to load on every page until 5 August 2026. It never had an advert to display, but it still contacted Google every time a page opened, which is why we said so here. It has now been removed: no Google advertising code runs on this site.

One advertising-platform script does still load: the Meta Pixel, from Facebook. It shows you nothing, because there are no adverts here. What it does is record that your browser visited, so that if we ever run a Meta ad campaign we can reach people who have already read the site. It sets two cookies, _fbp and _fbc, and it contacts Meta on every page view. If you would rather it did not, block connect.facebook.net in your browser or use any tracker-blocking extension.

If we ever do start showing adverts, third-party vendors including Google would use cookies to serve them based on your previous visits to this site and others, and some of those adverts would be personalised. You can switch personalised advertising off now, before it ever begins, at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a wider set of vendors at aboutads.info/choices.

We will update this page, and say so in the newsletter, before a single advert appears.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which posts get read and which get abandoned. It records page views, approximate location derived from IP, device type and referrer. We use it to decide what to write next. We do not use it to identify individual readers, and we have never tried to.

Cookies

Three kinds are set on this site:

• Necessary — keep the site working, remember that you ticked the comment box, hold your session if you log in.
• Analytics — set by Google Analytics to count visits and tell a returning reader from a new one.
• Advertising — _fbp and _fbc, set by the Meta Pixel described above. They identify your browser to Meta so that a future ad campaign of ours could reach you. No Google advertising cookie is set.

You can block or delete any of these in your browser settings, and you can opt out of the advertising ones at the two links in the advertising section. Blocking the necessary ones may break parts of the site.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. Nobody has ever paid us for a list and nobody will. Data reaches other parties only in these situations:

• Google, for the analytics described above.
• Meta, for the pixel described above.
• Our hosting and email providers, who store the site and deliver the newsletter on our behalf and may not use the data for anything else.
• The spam filter that screens comments.
• Anyone reading the site, for the things you asked us to publish: comments, lost and found reports, and adoption listings.
• A lawful authority, where we are legally required to hand something over.

Some of these providers store data outside India. The DPDP Act permits this except to countries the government specifically restricts, and we will stop using any provider that falls on such a list.

How long we keep it

• Newsletter email — until you unsubscribe, then deleted from the active list.
• Lost and found reports — kept while the case is open. Tell us the pet is home and we take the entry down.
• Adoption listings — kept while the animal needs a home, removed on request or once homed.
• Comments — kept with the post they belong to, removed on request.
• Analytics — retained on Google’s standard schedule, not by us individually.

Your rights under the DPDP Act

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct anything wrong, complete anything missing, erase what we no longer need, and withdraw a consent you gave earlier. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and it does not undo processing that already happened lawfully. You may also nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become incapable of doing it yourself.

Email cat@dogwithblog.in and we will act within a reasonable period, usually inside a week. If we do not, or you are unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. We would rather you gave us the chance to fix it first.

Children

Plenty of children read about dogs, and we are glad they do. But the DPDP Act treats anyone under 18 as a child, and processing their data needs verifiable parental consent. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18, we do not target advertising at children, and we do not track them behaviourally. If you are a parent and think your child has submitted something to us, write to cat@dogwithblog.in and we will delete it.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS, admin access is restricted and password-protected, and software is kept current. That is a reasonable standard for a site this size, and it is not a guarantee. If a breach affects your data we will tell you and the Data Protection Board, as the DPDP Rules require, rather than quietly patching it.

Links to other sites

We link to shelters, vets, government pages and Reddit threads. Once you click away, their privacy practices apply, not ours. We do not control what they collect.

Changes to this policy

When we change something that affects you, we update the date below and, for anything significant, say so in the newsletter. The DPDP Rules phase in through May 2027 and we will revise this page as they do.

Contact and grievances

Every request in this policy goes to one place: cat@dogwithblog.in. Access requests, corrections, deletions, takedowns and complaints all land in the same inbox and are usually answered within three to five working days.
