So there’s a fresh calendar on your desk. No highlighted dates or earmarks on it yet. Welcome to a new year, the year of the dog!
I hope you are among friends and family. Someone to hold and be held. But if you find yourself without people or plans, I want you to know ― you aren’t alone.
You always have me, your dog.
The lights shine too bright at this time of the year and still the dark finds a way to creep in. Do you smell despair in this cold January air? Do you wonder where the days swept by, weeks and months? There you were this time that year, and the year before, dreams beaming in your eyes.

I want you to know that it may take time but you’d arrive where you intended to be. This world would keep reminding you ― there’s no time, rush!
Let this dog tell you something – there’s always time. Time to turn around, time to stay on-course… you live in moments, not months.
I hope you take time to look up. May your days feel the warmth of the sun and starlight shine through your nights. The light of these celestial bodies have taken years to reach you, in between, there were other heavenly bodies and black holes but this light didn’t strike any before touching your skin. You are that important.
The year of the dog
2018 is the Year of the Dog according to the Chinese zodiac. It starts on February 16, 2018 (Chinese New Year) and would last until February 4, 2019.
As per the Chinese myth, if a dog happens to come to a house, it symbolizes the coming of fortune. The invincible god Erlang in Chinese legend used a loyal wolfhound to help him capture monsters.
Yulin, are you listening?
Do you see faces of people you loved or lost in the clouds?
Come with me and let’s venture out of the cubicle. Let’s live out of the mobile screen and smell the world like dogs do. Contrary to newspapers, the world is still not that bad.
Happy New Year! May your paths align with your dreams.
Love,
Dog
