Renovation Is Forcing Five Campus Cats Out of Their Only Home

- Thiruvananthapuram
The story
Renovation work at a Thiruvananthapuram office campus wraps up this week, and five cats who have lived there their whole lives are the collateral. Management calls them a nuisance. The employee who has fed them daily, paid for two of their neuterings out of her own pocket, and nursed them through recovery calls them family.
Once the work is done, the plan is to “relocate” them, which on this campus has meant dumping cats outside a restaurant with no experience hunting, crossing traffic or reading a street. None of these five has spent a day outside. They will not survive it.
The five, in her own words:
- Black-and-white male, 6 months. Neutered, dewormed, first vaccination dose done, litter trained, playful and affectionate.
- Black-and-white female, 11 months. Spayed, dewormed, first dose done, litter trained, a natural mother figure to the others.
- Calico female, 6 months. Unaltered, the friendliest of the group.
- Black-and-white kitten, 1.5 months. Sex not yet known, full of energy.
- Black male, 11 months. Unaltered, waits until the others have eaten before he does.
She is offering to sponsor the calico’s spay herself. All she is asking for is somewhere for these five to land, together or separately, before the week runs out.
