The story

Auro is a male indie puppy, about four to five months old. Around the BRICS summit in Delhi, someone abandoned him as a tiny pup on the divider of Aurobindo Marg. He lived there on his own for almost ten days, in the middle of the traffic, before Rashi and her friends could get him out.

The rescue happened early on Sunday, 20 September, planned by Arvind from Red Paws. Even at that hour the traffic was heavy, and it took a whole team to reach him. He came in anaemic and malnourished, with rickets, an infection, a severe worm load and skin problems. He was stabilised over ten days and given his first vaccine, then moved to a home foster in Malviya Nagar, where he lives now.

He’s named after the road where he survived. With good food, supplements and a lot of care, his paws and skin have healed well. In his first days at the shelter he was terrified of people, which makes sense after what he went through. Today he’s a sweet, friendly pup who gets along with humans and other pets.

His health so far: two doses of the 9-in-1 vaccine, his first anti-rabies shot (the second is due on 14 November), and three rounds of deworming, all on schedule. He isn’t sterilised yet because he’s still too young; if he hasn’t found a home in three to four months, Rashi will get it done. He has never bitten anyone.

Rashi is looking for a safe, loving forever home for him, one where his life is never in danger again.
