Google loves dogs

With the advent of winter, I have turned insensate to the urge to write. There are instances wherein exquisitely stung by the thought, I have looked for the quill but the inks have dried in this desolate December. Taciturnity, never a canine syndrome is ailing me wherein words don’t come easy and thoughts go tipsy.

In what would be a finale post to the year, let us wassail the entire woof world for subscribing to the dog raves, reviews, and occasional rants! A special thanks for submitting all those amazing snapshots of animal friends on our facebook page.

Cases of callous indifference to animal suffering are abundant in the dollar driven corporate world where idolatrous fervor for money prevails over compassion. Amidst the plethora of such distressing news of flagitious crimes, once in a while we come across tidings that calm the disruptive waters. To draw curtains to the year that was, here’s celebrating the corporate behemoth who loves the canines and canines love them too!

Google is dog friendly

‘Google’, the internet giant is an awesome dog-friendly company. Google loves dogs. The Google campus is a pet-friendly facility; friendly canines are more than welcome across the campus. At Google, any employee can bring their dog to work. Dogs on-campus help in having a relaxed & fun-loving atmosphere at work. The dogs also help with staff morale, build camaraderie among employees, and stimulate creativity. The presence of dogs in the office promotes teamwork.

“We recognize that dogs can be a valued and important part of employees’ lives and, in many cases, bringing them to work enhances their quality of life,” said Stacy Sullivan, Google’s chief culture officer.

Unfortunately, cats are not quite as welcome. Here’s an excerpt that was taken directly from Google’s Code of Conduct.

“Google’s affection for our canine friends is an integral facet of our corporate culture. We like cats, but we’re a dog company, so as a general rule we feel cats visiting our offices would be fairly stressed out.”

Though having dogs around can brighten up the workplace, Google management realizes it can cause problems as well. From Google’s Dog Policy: “Aggressive behaviour, such as growling, barking, chasing or biting, is unacceptable and the pet will have to be taken home on the first complaint.”

Apart from that here’s another reason to love the green Google! Did you know that the firm rents out goats? Yes, you read that right.  Google rents goats from a company called California Grazing to help cut down the weeds and brush at Google HQ. The low-carbon approach: Instead of using noisy mowers that run on gasoline and pollute the air. The operation of 200 goats (plus herder and a border collie) is kind to the environment, and as Google puts it: “A lot cuter to watch than lawnmowers.”

Dog-friendly companies you can send your CV to!

Here’s hoping that more companies adopt this animal-friendly approach in their operations and work culture. Indian firms, hope you’re listening!
