Update on the World’s Oldest Dog Title: A Case Re-examined

In February 2023, dog lovers everywhere celebrated the news of Bobi, a Rafeiro do Alentejo from Portugal, claiming the title of the world’s oldest dog at an incredible 30 years old! Sadly, Bobi passed away in October of the same year.

However, after a recent review, Guinness World Records has announced that they can no longer verify Bobi’s age and have removed him from the record books. While details like Bobi’s registration in 1992 were presented, the review found insufficient conclusive evidence to confirm his reported age.

It’s important to note that the Rafeiro do Alentejo breed typically has a lifespan of 12-14 years, making Bobi’s reported age of 30 quite extraordinary. Additionally, microchipping only became mandatory for dogs in Portugal in 2008, further adding to the challenges of verifying older dogs’ ages.

While Bobi’s story may not hold the official record, it still serves as a heartwarming testament to the incredible bond between humans and their canine companions. And who knows, perhaps another furry friend will one day step up to claim the title of the world’s oldest dog!

11. Bruschi, the dog with the largest eyes ever recorded on a dog

This cute Boston Terrier holds the Guinness World Record with eyes measuring 28mm.

12. Tubby, most bottles recycled by a dog!

Tubby helped recycle approximate 26,000 plastic bottles which he collected during walks with his human.

Guinness Book Record or not, dogs are the heroes we need. See, Whizz, the dog who saved 9 people from drowning. And how can we forget the heroics of Zanjeer, the Bombay police dog who foiled many a terror plot?

Dogs have an inherent talent to spread love, and be the heartwarming ambassadors, and that in itself is no mean feat.
