As the world came to a staggering halt in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history (50 people were killed — and 53 others were wounded), kindness poured in from every corner trying to fill the void. Amid the kind humans, were eleven therapy dogs from The Lutheran Church Charities K-9 who headed to Orlando to comfort the afflicted citizens.

Therapy dogs relate with all age groups and stay calm under all circumstances.

“Dogs can help. They’re like a furry counsel. They’re not judgmental and they’re good listeners, which is good because talking is an important part of the healing process. It allows people to process what happened.”

—Tim Hetzner, president of Lutheran Church Charities

Spreading smiles! These therapy dogs go through a 12- to 14-month certification program with professional trainers, which starts when the pup is only 8 weeks old.

This comfort dog group doesn’t charge any fee and goes anywhere they are invited. The dogs of this donation-based group also comforted people in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Therapy Dogs are known to comfort people.

These therapy dogs have been visiting police stations, counselling centres and hospitals in Orlando, and people can’t help but smile, hug or play with them at once.

Dogs also help kids testify against abusers in court and you can also find therapy dogs who calm young passengers, at the airport.

In these angels who hold no vice for mankind, humanity rests its hope. May therapy be imbibed in humans too, from when they’re 8 weeks old.
